The Aventon Level 3 is a premium urban commuter eBike that carries over the gravity-cast frame and ACU smart security from the Level 4 lineup while keeping the price under $2,000.

The Level 3 runs a 500W rear hub motor peaking at 864W with 60 N·m of torque, paired with a double-sided bottom bracket torque sensor. Four pedal assist modes — Eco, Tour, Sport, and Turbo — plus a thumb throttle top out at 28 mph in Class 3 mode; Class 2 (20 mph with throttle) ships as default.

The 36V 20Ah (733Wh) LG 21700 battery is keylessly removable through the display menu and is cross-compatible with the Abound SR, Abound LR, Aventure 3, and Pace 4. Aventon claims a 70-mile range; independent testing has returned up to 38 miles on steep mixed terrain and well over 70 miles in low assist on flat ground.

The headline component upgrade from the Level 2 is the braking system: Magura AT-2 2-piston hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors, which reviewers have noted as a meaningful step up from the Tektro and generic hydraulic systems typically found at this price point. One caveat worth noting: Aventon has shipped both Magura AT-2 and Tektro HD-E3520 brakes on Level 3 units depending on production batch, with the Tektro version adding motor cutoff sensors and a brake-activated rear light — features the Magura version lacks. Either way, stopping performance in independent testing has been strong.

The suspension fork is an Aventon-branded coil spring unit with 80mm of travel, preload adjustment, and lockout on a 15x100mm thru-axle. A 50mm suspension seatpost with preload adjustment is included standard. The drivetrain is Shimano Altus 8-speed with an SL-M315 trigger shifter, 48T chainring, and 11-32T cassette. The 680mm handlebar mounts to a multi-point adjustable stem for a customizable fit and riding position.

The gravity-cast aluminum front triangle is shared with the Level 4 ADV, eliminating visible weld lines for a clean, nearly seamless finish. The ACU smart security suite includes 4G GPS tracking, geofencing with push notifications, a motion detection alarm, electronic rear wheel immobilizer, remote shutdown via app or 4G, PIN start, and OTA firmware updates. GPS tracking requires an Aventon subscription after the first year ($20/year or $2/month), with a backup battery in the ACU keeping location reporting active even if the main battery is depleted.

Integrated front and rear lights with handlebar-controlled turn signals are standard; the rear light includes turn signal functionality and, on Tektro-equipped units, brake light activation. A 59-lb capacity rear rack, front and rear metal fenders, and a USB-A charging port on the display round out the commuter package. The Level 3 is IPX5 rated, UL 2849 and UL 2271 certified, weighs 67 pounds, and supports a maximum payload of 300 pounds.
