The Aventon Abound SR is a short-tail cargo eBike designed to carry passengers, groceries, and gear while remaining compact enough to handle like a regular bike.

The Abound SR is powered by a 36V 750W rear hub motor peaking at 1,188W with 80 N·m of torque, and features Sensor Switch (a selectable torque or cadence sensor system that lets riders choose between natural, effort-proportional power delivery and lighter cadence-based assist depending on the ride). Three pedal assist modes and a left-side thumb throttle top out at 20 mph in Class 2 configuration; Class 3 at 25 mph is unlockable via the Aventon app.

The 36V 20Ah (733Wh) LG 21700 battery is keylessly ejected upward from the downtube through the display menu or Aventon app and is cross-compatible with the Abound LR, Level 3, Aventure 3, and Pace 4. Aventon claims a 60-mile range; independent testing has consistently returned 65–70 miles in mixed conditions, outpacing the stated figure.

The gravity-cast one-piece front triangle gives the Abound SR a near-seamless appearance and the kind of lateral stiffness that most step-through cargo frames struggle to achieve. Reviewers have specifically noted that the SR handles loaded cargo with minimal flex, behaving more like a conventional bike than a utility hauler.

The 20 x 3.0-inch urban tires with reflective sidewalls on 20-inch double-wall alloy wheels contribute to the SR’s nimble, BMX-like handling character. An adjustable quill stem with 140mm of vertical travel accommodates a wide range of rider heights from 4’11” to 6’3″. A 50mm coil suspension fork with preload adjustment and lockout handles front suspension, and a 50mm Aventon suspension seatpost is included standard.

Stopping is handled by Tektro HD-E3520 2-piston hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm front and 203mm rear rotors and motor cutoff sensors, which enable the integrated rear light to function as a brake light. The drivetrain is Shimano Altus 8-speed with a BMX-style 720mm handlebar.

The ACU smart security suite is built directly into the frame and provides 4G GPS tracking, geofencing with push notifications, motion detection alarm, an electronically locking kickstand that can be set to auto-lock when the bike is powered off, a keyless electronically locking battery, remote motor disable, and PIN start — all managed through the Aventon app. GPS tracking requires an Aventon subscription after the first year.

The Abound SR ships fully equipped for cargo duty: integrated front and rear lights with turn signals and brake light, full front and rear fenders, a mesh rear wheel guard, a rear cargo rack rated for 143 pounds, and a dual-leg locking kickstand are all included. Optional accessories from Aventon include a Captain’s Chair passenger seat with wraparound handrails, footboards, and a range of baskets and bags. Note that most Abound LR accessories are cross-compatible with the SR, but original Abound accessories are not. The bike weighs approximately 80 pounds and supports a maximum payload of 440 pounds including the rider.
