The Aventon Abound LR is a long-tail cargo eBike built to carry two passengers, heavy loads, and everything else — and it ships fully equipped with the accessories to do it.

The Abound LR shares its core powertrain with the Abound SR: a 36V 750W rear hub motor peaking at 1,188W with 80 N·m of torque, Sensor Switch for toggling between torque and cadence sensor, three pedal assist modes, a left-side thumb throttle, and the same 36V 20Ah (733Wh) LG 21700 keyless battery with a claimed 60-mile range. Independent testing has consistently exceeded that figure, with one reviewer stretching it to 75 miles in Eco mode.

The battery is cross-compatible with the Abound SR, Level 3, Aventure 3, and Pace 4, and is released electronically through the display or Aventon app — no key required. Class 3 at 25 mph is unlockable via the app; Class 2 at 20 mph ships as default.

What separates the LR from the SR is the rear end. The long-rack frame adds 7 inches of rear deck length, creating enough room to carry two child passengers simultaneously — a configuration the SR can technically manage but feels cramped doing. The redesigned passenger handrail uses inner and outer rails to prevent small fingers from being pinched, and a reclined backrest is new for the LR. The rear rack carries 143 pounds; a lockable storage bag is integrated into the frame. The longer wheelbase — 69-degree head tube angle, longer chainstays — makes the LR feel more planted and stable at higher speeds than the SR, though slightly less agile in tight spaces.

The 88-pound weight is worth noting for riders who need to load the bike onto a car rack; most racks max out below that figure. The gravity-cast one-piece front triangle, which combines the head tube, down tube, and bottom bracket into a single molded unit, delivers a flex-free, nearly seamless frame that handles loaded cargo with confidence.

Up front, a 51mm coil suspension fork with preload adjustment, lockout, and 15x110mm thru-axle handles compliance. A 50mm Aventon suspension seatpost is included standard. Stopping is handled by Tektro hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm front and 203mm rear rotors and motor cutoff sensors, with the rear light functioning as a brake light and including turn signals.

The drivetrain is Shimano Altus 8-speed with an SL-M315 underbar trigger shifter and an 11-32T cassette — a meaningful upgrade from the previous Abound’s twist shifter and 7-speed freewheel. The bike rolls on 20 x 3.0-inch Innova IA-2131 urban tires with reflective sidewalls.

Full front and rear metal fenders, rear footboards, a mesh rear wheel guard, integrated front and rear lights with turn signals and brake light, and the full ACU smart security suite, which includes 4G GPS tracking, geofencing, motion alarm, locking kickstand, keyless locking battery, remote disable, and PIN start, is included. GPS tracking requires an Aventon subscription after the first year. The Abound LR is IPX5 rated and UL 2849 and UL 2271 certified. It supports a maximum payload of 440 pounds and fits riders from 4’11” to 6’3″.
