ECLIO Vetus 2 Fat Tire Electric Bike
The ECLIO Vetus 2 is a fat tire eBike built around a moped-style frame with dual suspension, a 1000W peak motor, and 624Wh battery at $729.
The Vetus 2‘s battery is an IPX5-rated 48V 13Ah pack totaling 624Wh. ECLIO claims up to 50 miles on pedal assist and 30 miles on throttle alone. As with any claimed range, real-world figures will vary based on rider weight, terrain, assist level, and temperature.
Power comes from a rear hub motor rated at 1000W peak with 60 Nm of torque, driven by a 48V controller with 9 MOSFETs, which is the same controller platform used across the ECLIO lineup. Default top speed is 20 mph in Class 2 mode, but is adjustable to 28 mph. Climbing ability is rated at 12 degrees, slightly below the 14 degrees cited for the city bikes in the range, which is likely a conservative rating given the added rolling resistance of fat tires.
The suspension setup is the Vetus 2’s most distinctive feature relative to other ECLIO models. The front fork is high-carbon steel, and a mid-mount rear spring shock works in combination with the fork to provide compliance over rough surfaces. Fat tire eBikes at this price often rely on tire volume alone for cushioning; the addition of a rear spring gives the Vetus 2 a more capable ride quality on broken pavement, gravel, and packed dirt. Brakes are 160mm mechanical disc. The drivetrain is a Shimano 7-speed with throttle, consistent with other ECLIO models.
The display is a 4.3-inch TFT LCD color screen, a step up from the basic LCD displays common on bikes in this price range. It shows speed, battery level, and ride data. The seat uses an extended design that ECLIO describes as offering more adjustment range for riding position. Handlebar width is 720mm, which is wider than any other model in the ECLIO lineup and appropriate for a fat tire platform. Wheelbase is 1110mm, reach is 430mm, headtube height is 950mm, and seat height is 830mm. A 55-lux LED headlight and NFC smart unlock are standard.
