Aventon Current EXP eMTB
The Aventon Current EXP is Aventon’s first full-suspension electric mountain bike, and it enters the trail eMTB category with a carbon front triangle, SRAM wireless shifting, SRAM Maven brakes, and RockShox suspension at a price point that undercuts similarly equipped bikes from Specialized and Trek by roughly $5,000.
The Current EXP is powered by the Aventon Ultro X mid-drive motor, rated at 750W peak with 110 N·m of torque and a Boost mode that bumps output to 850W and 120 N·m for 30 seconds. The motor is paired with a torque sensor and four pedal assist modes, with top speed unlockable to 28 mph in Class 3 mode via the Aventon app; Class 2 at 20 mph ships as default.
The 800Wh battery is integrated into the downtube and keylessly removed through the display, providing a claimed range of up to 105 miles — and in real-world trail testing at sustained effort, riders have consistently finished multi-hour rides with 50–60% battery remaining. The ACU smart security suite provides 4G GPS tracking, geofencing, motion alarm, remote wheel lock, Lost Mode, and PIN start, with GPS requiring an Aventon subscription after the first year.
The frame pairs a carbon fiber front triangle with a 6061 aluminum alloy rear triangle on a 4-bar suspension layout, delivering 140mm of rear wheel travel via a RockShox Super Deluxe Select+ shock. Up front is a RockShox Lyrik Select fork with 150mm of travel. The geometry is trail-oriented: 64.6° head angle, 76.6° seat angle, 29-inch wheels front and rear, and boost-spaced hubs with a ZS56 headset — all built to standard industry spec for compatibility with aftermarket forks, angleset headsets, and non-Transmission drivetrains.
Stopping is handled by SRAM Maven Base 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes with 200mm Centerline rotors front and rear. The drivetrain is SRAM S1000 AXS Transmission — a wireless 12-speed system that draws power directly from the bike’s main battery, eliminating the separate derailleur battery. The Current EXP rolls on Maxxis Minion DHF (front) and DHR II (rear) in 29 x 2.6-inch with EXO casing.
An X-Fusion Manic LT dropper post is included (150mm travel on S/M, 170mm on L/XL). The display is a touchscreen color unit showing trail grade, power output, and jump tracking data, with wheel lift control to keep the front tire planted on steep ascents.
The Current EXP is available in four sizes (S, M, L, XL) fitting riders from approximately 5’3″ to 6’4″+, weighs approximately 52–56 pounds depending on size, and supports a maximum payload of 300 pounds. It is UL 2849 certified. No fenders or rack are included, and none are available for the Current platform — it is a trail-only build. The frame is built to standard industry spec and accepts aftermarket components for riders who want to upgrade over time.
The Aventon Current EXP retails for $5,999 at aventon.com and comes with free shipping, a 14-day return window, and a 2-year warranty. Aventon has 1,800+ authorized dealer locations for in-person service. Riders who want the same motor, battery, and geometry at a lower price should consider the Current ADV at $4,599, which steps down to a full aluminum frame, SRAM Eagle 70 mechanical shifting, and SRAM DB8 Stealth 4-piston brakes.
