The Velotric Tempo is a 39-pound lightweight city eBike designed to look, feel, and handle as close to a conventional bicycle as possible. While the triple-butted aluminum frame with fully concealed cabling is found on conventional bikes, SensorSwap, Pulse Mode heart rate training, and NFC tap-to-ride definitely are not.

At 39 pounds the Tempo is the lightest eBike in the Velotric lineup and meaningfully lighter than most competitors in its price range, where 48–55 pounds is more typical. The weight reduction comes from a 6061 triple-butted aluminum frame, a smaller 350W motor, and a 374Wh battery rather than the 700–800Wh packs common on heavier commuter bikes.

The 350W rear hub motor peaks at 650W with 45 N·m of torque and performs well for urban commuting, flat-ground riding, and moderate hills at natural cadences. The Tempo uses Velotric’s SensorSwap to let riders toggle between torque sensor mode for natural, effort-proportional assist and cadence sensor mode for lighter, consistent power delivery.

A new Pulse Mode feature uses an included heart rate monitor to automatically adjust motor assistance in real time to keep the rider within a target heart rate zone during fitness-focused rides. Top speed ships at 20 mph in Class 2; Class 3 at 28 mph is unlockable via the Velotric app. The 374Wh removable battery is IPX7 rated and UL 2271 certified; range up to 60 miles has been claimed by Velotric, with independent reviewer testing returning over 70 miles at low assist on flat terrain.

The triple-butted aluminum frame is available in both high-step and mid-step styles in Regular and Large sizes, fitting riders from approximately 4’10” to 6’5″. All cables are routed internally for a clean finish, and the handlebar is integrated into the stem for a seamless cockpit look. NFC card unlock is standard. Riders tap the included card to the stem-integrated display to power on the bike without a key or app required.

Stopping is handled by Shimano MT200 2-piston hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors front and rear; notably, the brakes do not include motor cutoff sensors on the stock build. The drivetrain is Shimano Acera 8-speed with a 46T chainring, 12–40T cassette, and 170mm alloy cranks with a single-sided chain guard. The Tempo rolls on 700 x 42c puncture-resistant gravel tires, which where chosen to provide road efficiency alongside light gravel capability and a degree of vibration absorption in place of a suspension fork, which the Tempo does not have.

A 660mm handlebar with slight rise, 60mm adjustable-angle alloy stem, and ergo lock-on grips round out the cockpit. Integrated front and rear lights with turn signals are standard. An optional MIK HD rear rack ($89, 66 lb capacity) is available separately and is compatible with the full MIK accessory ecosystem. The Tempo is IPX6 rated for the whole bike and is UL 2849 certified. Maximum payload is 264 pounds.
