Velotric Discover M Mid-Drive eBike
The Velotric Discover M is the mid-drive flagship of the Discover lineup and is paired with an 801Wh battery, an air suspension fork, and Shimano CUES 9-speed on the same step-through frame as the Discover 3.
The Discover M is built around Velotric’s proprietary VeloCore mid-drive motor, rated at 500W sustained and 960W peak with 100 N·m of torque and a maximum support torque of 130 N·m on the steepest climbs. Unlike hub motors that push the rear wheel directly, mid-drive placement at the bottom bracket means power flows through the bike’s full gear range, allowing the motor to operate at its most efficient RPM regardless of terrain speed, and producing a more natural, bike-like pedaling feel that responds proportionally to rider input.
An Auto Assist mode reads terrain changes and adjusts the assist level automatically. A left-hand thumb throttle is included but is tuned with a deliberately gradual power ramp to protect the chain and cassette under load. The 48V 16.7Ah (801.6Wh) Samsung/LG 21700 battery is IPX7 rated and UL 2271 certified, with a claimed range of up to 95 miles; real-world commuter testing has confirmed 70+ miles at moderate assist as a realistic figure. NFC card unlock and Apple Find My / Android FindHub integration are standard.
The Discover M shares the Discover 3’s step-through frame with a low 370mm step-over height, adjustable stem, and ComfortMax ergonomic touches, but upgrades to an 80mm air suspension fork with thru-axle, lockout, and rebound adjustment, tunable to rider weight via a shock pump. A suspension seatpost provides rear compliance.
Stopping is handled by Tektro 2-piston hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors. The Shimano CUES 9-speed drivetrain uses a KMC e-Glide chain rated 33% stronger than standard to handle the elevated stress that mid-drive torque places on drivetrain components. A 3.5-inch full-color Bluetooth display, 500-lumen integrated LED headlight, integrated rear brake lights and turn signals, NFC card unlocking, a MIK HD rear rack, aluminum fenders, and a suspension seatpost are all included standard. Custom Mode is unlockable via the Velotric app except in California and allows throttle-assisted riding at up to 28 mph in Class 3.
The Discover M fits riders from 4’11” to 6’7″ across Regular and Large sizes in step-through only, weighs approximately 64 pounds, and supports a maximum payload of 440 pounds.
